Limited Time Engagement at Waterfront Theatre and New Home for April 2010 Announced
Vancouver, BC (March 3, 2010): Vancouver TheatreSports® League, a long-time resident of the New Revue Stage, and its cast of extraordinarily talented people are thrilled to announce a new home on Granville Island for their unique brand of shenanigans. The world-renowned, award-winning live theatre group has been a Granville Island mainstay since the late 80s. Reinventing the former Granville Island Model Trains Museum, this new venue will house a 180-seat audience chamber with traditional theatre seating and cabaret-style tables and chairs. Patrons will enjoy views of the marina from the multi-purpose, licensed, public reception and lobby area.
The new facility will open in April 2010.
Meanwhile, audiences eager for a dose of high impact improv comedy this month can catch a TheatreSports® limited engagement. ‘In-the-Raw: Intimate and Exposed’ is at Granville Island’s Waterfront Theatre with performances every Friday and Saturday through March, with two shows nightly at 8 pm and 10 pm:
- Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6
- Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13
- Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20
- Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27
Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, two teams of performers are pit against each other in competitive improv matches. Using audience suggestions to fuel scenes, teams create hilarious improvised situations on the spot. Each TheatreSports match is overseen by a referee. More than just a whimsical host, the ref slaps the improvisers with penalties and jabs or rewards them with bonuses as he sees fit. Round after grueling round, the audience votes for the best scenes and the sharpest improv.
